Why is CFTC regulation so important?

After the U.S. Senate failed to pass the Clarity Act eight days ago, CFTC Chairman Mike Selig announced on CNBC that the agency would write its own rules governing crypto infrastructure without waiting for Congress, citing existing regulatory authority with a strong "it's go time".

What followed in a single week was arguably the tightest U.S. crypto policy for many years:

• SEC approves a five-year Innovation Exemption allowing tokenized U.S. stocks to be traded on the public blockchain immediately
• SEC hosts a 24-hour trading platform that includes the NYSE, Nasdaq and DTCC.
• The CFTC issued a no-action letter allowing Apple Wallet to refer users to regulated derivatives without registering as a broker.
• The CFTC submitted two draft regulations to the White House: Regulation crypto asset Transactions and Regulation crypto asset Markets.

How does this affect Thai investors?

The key point is that the CFTC created a designated contract market, allowing exchanges to offer leveraged crypto trading but not encompassing spot markets. This new regulation means perpetual futures (perps) are the main focus points, giving Hyperliquid and Lighter a clear edge with the LIT token making new highs at $5.40 and HYPE just 1-2% away from its peak, while Binance announced today's opening of HYPA spot trade at 14:00 ET.2%
