What's the token standard? Why is there one?
When you move a token from one wallet to another, or see top coins displayed on an exchange app, all of this is possible because the "token standard", or token standards, are technical rules shared by developers around the world that allow different wallets, applications and platforms to read and interact with tokens instantly without having to completely re-code each individual token.
On the Ethereum network, which is the blockchain with the most tokens, the two most widely used standards are ERC-20 and ERC-721 .
ERC-20 and the "all things equal" guy.
ERC-20 is the standard for fungible tokens, so each token is identical and interchangeable like two 1,000 baht bills of equal value without anyone caring which one.
A lot of the tokens that you're familiar with are built on top of this standard, like stablecoins , a governance token called tokens , and an tokens utility used in various DeFi applications.
ERC-721 and the "don't repeat" command.
The ERC-721 is the non-fungible tokens standard, where each token has a unique identification code that can't be swapped out even if it looks similar, making it ideal for digital artwork, collectibles and in-game items where all pieces must have clear ownership and identity.
How does it affect the average user?
The tangible result is that tokens built to both of these standards can be opened for trading on an exchange app, displayed in a wallet and traded on the Marketplace without needing a special link as a token because the standard specifies a common set of functions which all supported applications can call immediately.
For users in Thailand who buy and sell through an exchange licensed by the GST (Thai: SEC ), most tokens approved for trading are built on these standards, which is why it's not difficult to discontinue using a wallet or switching platform.
