The Bitcoin options market worth 15,600 million dollars will expire on Friday. This is what it means.

Information from Deribit reveals that the option contract for Bitcoin expired on Friday, July 25th. It has a value of approximately 182,000 BTC shares as opposed to an option contract worth about 106,200 contracts and 75,900 contracts valued at nearly 15.6 billion dollars according to current prices

Max Pain's level is at $76,000 according to the board of Deribit and the price with the strongest contract is 70,000 dollars, which is a position that has both contracts and the largest stakes combined.

After these deals are closed, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and CME Futures contract closings will come in a few hours, which will be a test of whether Bitcoin 's expansion can sustain itself without relying on price-supported hedging.

Option Bitcoin valued at approximately 15.6 billion dollars will expire on Deribit in the early hours of Friday morning according to separate reports. The price of Deribit , alone, has about 182,000 open contracts.

A call option gives the buyer the right to buy Bitcoin at a specified price within a certain day, but it is not binding. The opposite of an options market is that the holder of the contract has a right to sell at that price. Traders will purchase calls when they expect prices to rise and putts when they anticipate prices to fall.

The odds ratio of 0.71 means there are significantly more bets, reflecting the betting that prices will continue to rise which is consistent with "greedy" market sentiment according to crypto fear and greed index

The amount of 15.6 billion dollars is not cash that changed hands on Friday, but the notional value to which these contracts refer.

Option traders often capture a level called Max Pain, which is the price that promises to have the most value at expiry. The seller has a theoretical incentive for the price to move up to that level. Friday's Deribit dashboard sets Max Pain at $76,000 lower than the $ Bitcoin price of about $85,000 or around $9,000.

However, Max Pain has various records for predicting the true price of Bitcoin , so don't rely on it too much.

Companies that sell these options need to hedge their risk by buying or selling Bitcoin . In fact, as the price moves when a dealer sells an open call option and the price goes up they often buy Bitcoin in order to maintain a balance of hedging risks which adds momentum to the already occurring bullishness. When the contract expires this hedging action will disappear some will move to a more stable path and some won't.

The thickness of the contract in each price indicates where the hedging risk is located. The most obviously tightest contract value is $70,000, and figures for Deribit alone indicate that there are both the largest call position (8,705 BTC ) and the largest put position (7,653 BTC ), combined, which is a level that pulls pressure from hedging risks from both directions simultaneously.

The next heaviest position came in at $90,000 (7,222 BTC ) followed by $100,000 (6,950 BTC ), while the remaining largest risk-averse bets rose to $60,000 (5,571 BTC ) and $75,000 (4,257 BTC ).

The closing of the Deribit contract is not only today's test. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) final order data for September will be released within a few hours after expiration, and CME futures contracts close on the same day.

The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) has raised the target interest rate range to 3.75% to 4.00% as of February 16. So any surprises in this data will have increased weighting for assets that are subject to interest rates like Bitcoin .

September is often the month that tests the momentum of Bitcoin . Such assets have been closed in a month up to 8 times over the past 13 years, which was decrypted under the name "Red September".

This time, it looks like the upside is winning history.

The contract book of Deribit will close at 8:00 UTC on Friday and the CME's files will be closed for auction seven hours later at 15:00 UTC at the end of testing day.
