Ethereum isn't instantaneously fast, but the collateral makes it feel that way.

When a financial app says that the transfer is complete, we often immediately decide to do something else because we believe it's ready for use, but on Ethereum , the ultimate level of authentication called finality takes several minutes, allowing apps to choose how long they can wait before telling users "it's done".

The solution is preconfirmations, where an intermediary guarantees the outcome of a transaction before the blockchain actually confirms it.

On September 22, Puffer, the company that built the business infrastructure on top of Ethereum , announced that Google Cloud would be a gateway operator accepting transactions and guaranteeing pre-settled outcomes by Puffer's UniFi network as its first user. Amir Forouzani, CEO of Puffer disclosed to The Verge[20] on September 23 that both UniFi and the Puffer Preconf service are still in test environments and performance with real customers using real money has yet to be proven.

How does the mechanism work?

The Ethereum core network has a block submission time of 12 seconds, and finality verification often takes several minutes. Reversing the confirmed list would severely compromise network security with huge financial penalties.

How does it relate to the user?
