Ethereum activated the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia test network.

Pooja Ranjan, a contributor to the Ethereum community announced via post on X that the Glamsterdam upgrade was launched on Sepolia's test network on Tuesday at 1:53 pm UTC as one of the last drills before launching on the main network of Ethereum . According to an Ethereum Foundation blog post dated September 28, this update advances the Layer 1 performance enhancement plan by separating upstream providers and block builders included in the protocol.
The priority to the plan is enhancing Layer 1 of Ethereum .
The development is considered one of the last test network launches for Glamsterdam, which could be seen as one of its most significant upgrades of the year.2026 It aims to make Ethereum 's network more scalable and efficient. After launching on a test network, developers will schedule Glam Amsterdams release date on the Hoodi Test Network before their next major network launch date.
Glamsterdam is the next major upgrade from Fusaka, designed to improve scalability, enhance layer 1 robustness and make networks more user-friendly. Major changes include a separation of roles between providers and block creators encapsulated in the protocol, and a block level access list that alters how blocks are produced and audited to accommodate increased transaction volumes on Ethereum 's core network.
Separating the role of submitter and creator with list access at block level
EIP-7732 creates a separation of functions between the proposer and the block builder on Ethereum 's binary protocol, with binary checks being separated from processing checks to give controllers time to check more data sets that need to be processed. Currently, Ethereum , which works in a single channel mode, processes transactions in one sequence; parallel processing opens up the possibility for the Ethereum -device to accept higher numbers of transactions per second and larger blocks without increasing penetration.
Another major change is the EIP-7928 which enforces block level access lists to record accounts and storage locations accessed between blocks, as well as post transactional status changes. These allow clients to more efficiently read status from parallel disks, check for parallel transactions, and compute state metrics.
Minimum requirement of 200 million gallons and effect on speed
In a May blog post, Ethereum Foundation stated that they had set the minimum gas ceiling at 200 million for Glamsterdam which would allow the network to have significantly increased speed after upgrading compared with the current gas ceilings of around 60 million.
Further directions from Glamsterdam and associated context
After launching Glamsterdam on the main network, developer Ethereum will begin implementing Hegotá as its next major upgrade. In August, developers began reviewing 66 proposals for filtering to define the boundaries of Hegota, with many adding personalization capabilities into the protocol.
